An Emporia teenager charged in a November kidnapping and beating incident has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Alexander Couch pled Wednesday in Lyon County District Court to attempted robbery, aggravated battery and conspiracy on those charges. He’ll be sentenced at 9 a.m. Aug. 15.
Couch is one of six defendants charged in the case, stemming from allegations made by a then-16-year-old male that he was kidnapped and subsequently beaten twice, including once at the so-called Rocky Ford or Bird Bridge. At least one co-defendant has already been sentenced. Samuel Garcia, 18 was sentenced in April to seven years in prison for his involvement in the incident.
Sentencing is coming Tuesday for Jonathon Manzano and Wednesday for Selena Hernandez. Manzano was convicted in May on charges of aggravated battery and attempted aggravated robbery. Hernandez was convicted in May to aiding and abetting aggravated robbery.
Other co-defendants include Andrew Granado, who has a preliminary hearing in the case Wednesday. Granado is charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, conspiracy on those counts and aggravated robbery.
Armando Nunez, a juvenile charged as an adult will have his case go to trial later this year. Nunez faces charges of aggravated battery, conspiracy to commit aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.
