The American Legion Post 5A team was in action Thursday in a doubleheader with the Andover Trojans.
Andover would jump out to an early lead in game one with two runs in the first and six in the second to take an 8-0 lead. Emporia would answer in the bottom of the second with four runs. A ground ball single by Josiah Senne would score Evan Berges and Bobby Trujillo for Emporia’s first two runs. Emporia would score a single in the third to come within three. Emporia would score one run in the bottom of the seventh off a bases-loaded walk to come within two but were unable to capitalize as Andover would take game one 8-6.
In game two Andover would again be first on the board scoring two runs in the second inning. Emporia would get on the board in the second as Bobby Trujillo would score from third off a wild pitch. In the third Kaydyn Williams would score off a John Pringle single to tie the game 2-2. Andover would score off a bock by Hunter Redeker and a fielder’s choice to regain the lead 4-2. Andover would add two in the six and one in the seventh to close out Emporia 7-3.
Coach Anthony Markowitz says Andover had all the answers to Emporia’s offense.
Emporia will return to action Tuesday when they travel to Ottawa for a double header.
