Traffic is again open along West 12th Ave. but motorists should continue to exercise caution.
Emporia Public Works crews have been busy since Wednesday morning making needed repairs both to the street and sidewalk after a 20-inch main split near 12th and Sunnyslope. Barricades have been removed, but because construction continues on replacing the pipe in question, it may be another three weeks before the job is finished and traffic returns to normal.
Public Works Director Frank Abart says repairs on the split have been completed but hasn’t ruled out the possibility of future breaks as the construction process continues.
Friday 8 a.m.
Traffic on West 12th should return to the current normal after a water main break near Sunnyslope earlier this week.
Traffic has been completely blocked since early Wednesday, when an old 20-inch main split. Public Works Director Frank Abart says barricades between Prairie and Sunnyslope should be removed Friday morning, perhaps as soon as 9 am, after repaving work Thursday.
Traffic won’t fully return to normal until July. Crews have been replacing the 20-inch pipe in question the last several weeks, and another three weeks or so are needed to finish the job.
Wednesday’s line split happened very close to where old and new pipe were connected. Abart hasn’t ruled out other water main breaks along that line as the construction process continues.
