A day off was just what the doctor ordered for the Kansas City Royals as they snapped their losing streak defeating the Houston Astros 1-0 Friday.
The Royals and Astros would remain even at zero through the first eight innings before Kansas City would break the tie with a single run in the top of the ninth. Rosell Herrera, the Royal’s recent call-up, would loop an RBI triple into center field scoring Adalberto Mondesi to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Herrera also robbed Alex Bregman of a home run in the eighth keeping the game tied at zero.
With the win, the Royals snap their nine game losing streak and improve to 22-52.
Danny Duffy was the starting pitcher for the Royals giving up only two hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.
The Royals and Astros will continue their series Saturday night in Houston. First pitch is set for 6:15, coverage on KVOE 1400am/96.9 FM begins at 5:30.
