Amerigroup is protesting the state’s decision to not renew its contract as a KanCare insurance partner.
Anthem Public Relations spokesperson Denise Malecki says Amerigroup is “disappointed” with Friday’s announcement Aetna is replacing Amerigroup as a KanCare provider. As part of that statement, Amerigroup is announcing plans to contest the decision through the state’s formal bid process.
As part of its decision to end its partnership with Amerigroup, the state renewed its contracts with Sunflower State Health Plan and United HealthCare. Kansas Department of Health and Environment says there were six candidates that submitted bids for the state contract. 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber of Emporia explains what drove KDHE to drop Amerigroup in favor of Aetna.
Amerigroup has been a KanCare insurance provider since 2013. The company now coordinates Medicaid services for better than 127,000 residents in Kansas. Malecki says Amerigroup wants to work with the state to review the bid process and determine the best process for moving forward. The company also is working to ensure uninterrupted access to services and care.
Consumers using Amerigroup can choose one of the three current providers once open enrollment begins in October. Unless there is a change this year, Amerigroup will be a KanCare partner until its contract ends Dec. 31.
