Outgoing USD 251 Superintendent Aron Dody reflected on his decade with the district before his final board meeting Wednesday night.
Dody served first as principal of Americus and North Lyon County Junior High for six years and the last four as district superintendent. He credited staff for the successes the district has had recently.
Dody championed plans to build new facilities for the district, including two attempts at a K-12 building and one at a new K-8 building near the district’s southern boundary. All three failed with intense support and opposition during each bond vote. Having said that, Dody tells KVOE News his biggest regret was watching enrollment numbers decline and not either stabilize or increase.
Dody says he’s excited to join USD 417, but he will miss the relationships he has developed across North Lyon County the past 10 years.
In Dody’s place will be Mike Mathes, who recently retired from leading the Topeka Seaman district after better than 20 years in that position. Mathes, for his part, declined comment until after he takes over next week.
