The excessive heat is posing a challenge for those who work outside this week.
Emporia Public Works Director Frank Abart tells KVOE News this time of year can be tough on public works officials, who sometimes must work through extreme conditions. He says there is a heightened awareness among crew members to take care of themselves and others.
Public works officials are advised this week to take more frequent breaks, hydrate and when possible get into the shade or air conditioning. Abart says the public can also give workers a break by easing the stress on water lines.
It’s also a time of year when there is more stress on the city’s water lines.
Public Works officials have been busy the past few weeks, specifically in the area of 12th Ave. between Prairie and Grand working on upgrades to the water lines there.
