A Chase County woman has been convicted on five counts of letting dangerous animals run at large.
A Chase County jury convicted Britney Shapley on Thursday. The case followed complaints the dogs were charging citizens and also biting residents and a sheriff’s deputy. Two dogs got back to a pen, but deputies put down the other three during an incident in early September.
Shapley will be sentenced Aug. 16.
Shapley’s case is ending as one against Shelby Carson is beginning in Chase County District Court. Carson has a hearing slated for July 13 on three counts of permitting a dangerous dog to be at large.
Carson’s arrest followed a June 4 incident where Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker shot and killed the dog after he said the dog became aggressive toward him and another responding deputy as well as a separate incident May 18 when the dog allegedly charged two other deputies.
