A Colorado man is dead and several people were hurt after a three-vehicle pile-up in Greenwood County Saturday.
The crash happened on US Highway 400 near Piedmont shortly before 3:30 pm. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 25-year-old Edin Gonzalez Gamez of Edwards, Colo., crossed the center line for unknown reasons and smashed into an SUV driven by 37-year-old Leonora Smith of Atlanta. A third vehicle, a car driven by 37-year-old Richard Lomax of Claremore, Okla., then wrecked trying to avoid the other two vehicles.
Gonzalez was killed in the wreck, while a passenger, 3-year-old Britany Gonzalez Orellana was taken to Wesley Medical Center. She is in fair condition.
Smith was also taken to Wesley Medical and is in critical condition. Two passengers, 24-year-old Martin Richards of Howard and 20-year-old Nathaniel James of Arma, were taken to Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka for care.
Lomax was not hurt.
Everybody in the wreck was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
