The Kansas City Royals dropped an early 3-0 lead to fall to the Mariners 6-4 Saturday in a special turn ahead the clock game.
After scoring three runs in the first inning thanks to a three-run home run by Mike Moustakas, Kansas City would allow just one run for Seattle in the bottom of the frame. The Mariners would then hold Kansas City scoreless through five straight innings and score three in the second and two in the third to lead 6-3. Kansas City would try to answer scoring a single run in the seventh off a sac fly by Rosell Herrera, but could not add to at as Seattle claimed game two of the series.
Jason Hammel took the loss for Kansas City giving up six runs off thirteen hits in six innings on the mound.
Both teams were wearing futuristic jerseys during the game celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the “Turn the Clock Ahead Night,” which was a league-wide promotion in 1998 which saw teams don futuristic, and sometimes ridiculous, uniforms. The Royals and Mariners also faced each other on that night in 1998.
The Royals and Mariners will wrap up their three-game series in Seattle Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:10 coverage on KVOE 1400am/96.9fm at 2:30.
