The American Legion Post 5 Juniors completed pool play in the Summerslam tournament Saturday with back to back come from behind wins.
Emporia overcame a late deficit in game one to defeat the Wichita Aviators 11-8.
Trailing by a score of 8-3 in the sixth Kadyn Williams started the comeback with a line drive single to center field scoring Chance Gilpin. Emporia came within one after a hit by Bobby Trujillo scored Kadyn Williams. Evan Berges added a groundball single scoring two runs to take the 9-8. Emporia closed out Wichita with a line drive double by Josiah Senne. Evan Berges led Emporia with three RBI in four at-bats.
In game two Emporia came from behind yet again outscoring Andover 21-12.
Emporia fell behind 11-3 thanks to a big first inning by Andover. After a brief weather delay, Post 5 answered with three in the second and took control in the third scoring 15 runs taking a 21-11 lead. Emporia allowed just one run in the bottom of the third to complete the comeback 21-12 in three innings. Andover went through seven different pitchers in the game including five in the third. Avery Peek led Emporia in game two with 4 RBI.
Coach Anthony Markowitz says he was proud of how his team responded in both games, but in the future is hoping for stronger starts.
Emporia will be the three seed in bracket play Sunday. They will face Clay Center at 1pm.
