Scam season is in full force and Emporia Police are warning people to beware.
On Monday the police department received a tip from a resident who got a call from what appeared to be “Emporia State Bank.” The number on the caller ID was (620) 342-5845 (a disconnected number). The citizen was then given an 800 number to call and when prompted, the person on the other end of the line attempted to get money from them.
Thankfully no money was stolen from the citizen, but it is a good reminder to always be wary of people calling you attempting to ask for money or bank account information. ESB Financial has also been notified of the scam.
If you suspect anything suspicious, it’s best to call the Emporia Police Department or Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
