Now a week after a tornado cut a roughly 2-mile path from downtown Eureka to the junior-senior high school, affected residents now have several places available for picking up donated supplies.
*The Eureka Area Ministerial Alliance has set up shop at the former McDonald’s, 1005 East River. Items ranging from water and sports drinks to snacks, cleaning supplies, personal care items and hygiene products are available from 1-6 pm through at least this Friday. Call Pastor Francois Erasmus at 831-525-4465 for information.
*Mended Heart Ministry at 224 North Main is providing food, clothing and monetary services. It is asking for donations of nonperishable food. Call Larry Moore at 620-583-9993 for information.
*The Churches of Christ Disaster Response team at 807 East River has cleaning supplies, fans, personal hygiene items and other items.
Meanwhile, Greenwood County Emergency Management says the Tornado Recovery Committee needs time to serve survivors. The organization coordinating efforts to link survivors to volunteers and agencies is the Eureka Foundation. Folks can call 620-583-9857 or go online to www.eurekakansas.com for updates.
One recovery point that has been slow going has been in restoring certain technology services. Greenwood County Emergency Management Director Levi Vinson says AT&T, the city’s sole phone provider for landline services, has been telling customers they may not have service fully restored until July 20. Mediacom, the city’s Internet and TV provider, is also offline to some degree and there is no word on when those services will be fully restored.
The EF-3 tornado damaged or destroyed around 200 buildings and hurt eight people.
