Residents of Eureka are taking a break from cleanup efforts the past week to celebrate the Fourth of July.
City Manager Ian Martell says the annual Party in the Park will take place as scheduled at Eureka City Park after a tornado caused extensive damage last week.
Activities got started around 8 am with a boat parade at Eureka City Lake, with a parade at 10 am, pool activities at 1 pm, turtle races, a community meal and fireworks to close out the event.
Meanwhile, cleanup from the June 26 tornado will resume in earnest Thursday. The city is reminding residents debris pickup by staff will only be in the affected tornado area. Property owners need to apply for demolition permits, while residents hiring roofing companies need to make sure those contractors have a city permit, state certificate and proof of liability insurance.
AT&T may not have landline phone service fully restored until July 20. Mediacom, the city’s Internet and TV provider, may have its outage restored by this upcoming Monday.
