As the window for discharging fireworks comes to an end, Emporia Police and local emergency officials are thankful for a lower number of complaints and emergency calls.
EPD Sgt. Lisa Sage joined KVOE’s Newsmaker program Thursday morning and says residents, for the most part, adhered to the rules as officers have responded to just 32 complaints since June 27.
Most of the complaints, especially on the 4th of July, were from people noticing other residents discharging of fireworks beyond the legal timeframe of 11 p.m. The discharge timeframe within city limits officially ends at 10 p.m. Thursday. Sage explains what will happen from there if they are called out for complaints.
Sage also advised that all fireworks-related debris needs to be cleaned up from city streets and right-aways. If you have any complaints, call police at 343-4200.
