A woman was hospitalized after a crash in downtown Emporia late Thursday morning.
Around 11 am, a car rear-ended a minivan at Seventh and Merchant. Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says 23-year-old Brittany Shapley of Haigler, Neb., was southbound in the minivan and was being followed by 20-year-old Colin Ringer of Emporia. Ringer was driving a car.
Both vehicles were stopped at a red, but when the light turned green, Shapley was yielding to oncoming traffic so she could turn left. Ringer’s car rear-ended the van.
A passenger in the Shapley van, 60-year-old Deanna Thompon-Simpson, was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment. Ringer was cited for careless driving.
