Nearly a week after Jose Angel Montes was killed by a semi, Emporia Police detectives are still working on what led Montes to the place where he died.
Montes was on Interstate 35 near the Burlingame Road exit when a semi driven by 47-year-old Dewaine Jackson of Amarillo, Texas, hit and killed him early Sunday morning. Jackson told authorities he tried unsuccessfully to avoid Montes before the accident.
Detectives are still conducting interviews with people who saw, talked with or dealt with Montes on Saturday and Saturday night as they try to reconstruct Montes’ last few hours. Authorities are still waiting for toxicology reports after an autopsy was completed early this week.
A reward of up to $1,000 is still in effect through Lyon Crime Stoppers as authorities try to solve this case. If you have information and want to submit an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at 342-2273, go online to www.p3tips.com or download and use the P3Tips mobile app.
