A new crosswalk has been installed near Maynard Early Childhood Education Center where Constitution crosses South Ave.
The project was funded through a $5,000 Governor’s Council on Fitness grant to improve walkability near the school. Healthier Lyon County representative Daphne Mertens helped secure the grant earlier this year.
Mertens says there are hopes to do more projects like this one in the future and says Healthier Lyon County plans to do a kickoff event when school begins to educate parents and students how to use the crosswalk properly.
The City of Emporia donated time of Employees to get the project constructed and USD 253 helped with some of the overage costs.
