Three large hay bales were destroyed in a fire near Emporia’s west city limits Sunday afternoon.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Rich Gould says a spark from a hay baler led to a blaze that caught the bales and about a third of an acre of grass on fire in the 4100 block of Graphic Arts shortly before 4:30 pm. The bales were rolled out and allowed to burn in an effort to conserve water. The baler was not affected.
No injuries were reported. Americus Fire assisted on the call.
