After a weekend that featured temperatures around 90 and unseasonably low humidity levels, scorching heat and humidity are returning in full force this week.
Temperatures topped out at 88 degrees Saturday and 90 Sunday, but dewpoints were in the 60s both days — making for warm but relatively comfortable conditions areawide.
Both temperatures and humidity levels will be up considerably this week. Air temperatures will reach the mid-90s Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures at or above 96 degrees for the rest of the work week through the upcoming weekend. Heat index readings will close in on 105 degrees as the week progresses.
With this perhaps the most prolonged heat period we have seen so far this summer, health officials are urging you to take several precautions to keep yourself safe:
*Drink lots of water or sports drinks. Limit alcohol or caffeine intake.
*Wear light, loose-fitting clothes.
*If you feel ill, take breaks in air conditioning or shade.
As always with the heat, make sure children and pets aren’t left in hot vehicles. Also, check on elderly neighbors to make sure they are OK.
