The Emporia Senior American Legion baseball team tuned up for zone tournament play with a doubleheader sweep of the Topeka Senators Tuesday night.
The Post 5 Seniors won the first game 7-4. They scored 2 runs in the first on an error and a ground out. In the 2nd inning they added 4 runs with 2 out on a Beau Baumgardner double, a Sawyer Slayden infield single and an error. Eric Hertlien was the winning pitcher.
Post 5 won the 2nd game 7-0. Hayden Baumwart and Skyler Beatty combined on a 2 hit shutout. The big inning was the 3rd when they scored 5 runs on 3 walks, 2 singles and 2 errors. Trevin Ginter drove in 2 runs with a single.
They will take a 21-5 record into the zone tournament that begins Saturday at Chanute. Post 5 already has a spot in the State tournament since they are hosting the tournament. The State tournament will run from July 25th -29th.
