The third disc golf championship in Emporia this year is in the books, and organizers are celebrating an outstanding start to what they believe will become a new tradition in the disc golf capital of the world.
After four days of competition, the Professional Disc Golf Association Junior World Championships came to an end Saturday. This was the first of a planned three years in which Emporia will be hosting the championship tournament. Organizer and Dynamic Discs founder Jeremy Rusco says he was pleased with this year’s tournament and looks forward to making it grow in the years to come.
Nearly 200 youngsters from 45 different states and five countries competed in the tournament. Rusco says he believes a major factor of people coming to play in Emporia is based on the quality of the courses available.
Emporian Isaiah Esquivel, 13, was one of the competitors who walked away with a championship, claiming the boys 15 and under age division title with a score of 43 under par. Rusco says his win shows the high level of competitors coming out of Emporia.
