As the primary election draws closer, the deadline to register for to vote Aug. 7 is at the end of business Tuesday.
After that, there are a few options for when you decide to cast your ballot. Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat says advance voting will begin next week.
Mail ballots can be requested beginning tomorrow Wednesday by filling out an application with the County Clerk’s office. Vopat expects a brisk turnout for this year’s election, projecting close to 50 percent turnout Aug. 7. If you vote in person, the procedure to check in on the electronic poll books is the same. Vopat says voters will be handed a ballot receipt with a bar code and a blank piece of paper.
Among the ballot questions, Emporia voters will decide whether or not to approve Sunday alcohol sales at retail businesses. The gubernatorial race will be narrowed down to one candidate each in the Democratic and Republican races. The primary election is Aug. 7.
