Emergency personnel transported an Emporia man Wednesday afternoon following a fireworks-related injury.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m. first responders were toned out for a burn victim in the 1200 block of Triplett Drive. According to Emporia Fire Department responder Willy Ward, a man lit a cigarette that was apparently rigged with a firecracker inside of it, the result of an apparent prank. The man was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with non-life threatening injuries. His name has not been released.
Emporia Police Sgt. Lisa Sage tells KVOE News that police did not respond and are not currently investigating this as a criminal incident.
