Powerful thunderstorms caused rather widespread damage to the east and southeast of Emporia on Thursday afternoon.
Early damage reports include a roof being blown off a house in Lebo after winds as high as 70 mph. As many as three power poles were reportedly downed by high winds south of Lebo, with a power outage initially affecting over 600 Westar customers from the immediate Lebo area into southern Osage County. Power lines have also been reported as downed in Overbrook.
Coffey County Emergency Management also reports several large tree limbs were downed in the Waverly area.
Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative says there has been extensive tree damage in its northern and eastern areas of its service territory, and there was an unlisted number of individual outages as of 4:30 pm. Estimated restoration times have not been released.

The watch coincides with a heat advisory also in place for much of the area. Lyon, Coffey, Greenwood and Osage counties are under that advisory until 8 pm.
