Emporia Police have more information about an injury crash that culminated near the Mary Herbert Education Center on Thursday afternoon.
Police Sgt. Lisa Sage tells KVOE News there was a hit-and-run crash, with a brief pursuit developing afterward. The chase ended with the suspect crashing into a tree near a vacant lot close to Ninth and Sherman. That person was taken to Newman Regional Health afterward.
Police are still investigating. Additional information may be released Friday morning.
4 pm Thursday: One person transported following wreck near 9th and Sherman
Emporia Police are investigating a crash near the Emporia Public Schools administrative building Thursday afternoon, shortly after 3 p.m.
Early indications are that the incident near 9th and Sherman may have been the result of a hit and run. One vehicle slid into the vacant lot north of the Mary Herbert building, possibly striking a tree before coming to rest.
One person inside the vehicle was transported by Emporia/Lyon County ambulance to Newman Regional Health. The severity of injuries is unknown at this time.
Emporia Police Sgt. Lisa Sage confirms to KVOE News that there was, in fact, a hit and run, but says it involved two locations. Emporia Police are continuing to investigate and additional details are pending at this time.
