STRONG CITY — Senator Jerry Moran spoke with Chase County residents during a town hall meeting at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.
Residents quizzed Moran about several topics, especially agriculture. Moran says he’s seeking answers from the Trump Administration because Kansas agriculture is already suffering from tariffs enacted over the past couple months.
Moran says ag needs more certainty, not less, but that’s difficult at a time when drought is in full effect and prices were depressed before this year’s tariffs kicked in.
Separately, Moran spent time addressing his visit with Russian leaders as part of a delegation of US lawmakers shortly before President Donald Trump had his now much-derided meeting with dictator Vladimir Putin. Moran says the United States has to take a strong stand against Russian aggression.
In addition, Moran talked about technology, especially when it comes to broadband Internet access. Moran says “improvements can be made” in Chase County, and he wants to walk with providers to help improve access.
Moran also talked about pension security, an ongoing concern for local Teamsters and members of the Bakers, Confectioners and Tobacco Workers Union — who both say their pensions could be drying up within the next decade.
