BURLINGTON — One man is dead and two have been hospitalized after a three-vehicle wreck in Coffey County on Sunday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says a pickup, SUV and semi collided at the junction of US Highway 75 and Kansas Highway 58, seven miles south of Burlington, shortly after 10 am. The SUV, driven by 36-year-old Kelly Minor of Neosho Falls, was southbound on US 75 and waiting for the northbound semi, driven by 38-year-old Jason Brammer of Frankfort, to pass so Minor could turn east. The pickup, driven by 80-year-old William Castle of Clearwater, was southbound but failed to stop for Minor’s SUV. Castle’s pickup rear-ended the Minor SUV and crossed the center line, hitting Brammer’s semi head-on.
Castle was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. Minor was taken to Coffey County Hospital in Burlington for treatment. The hospital does not release patient conditions to the media. The Highway Patrol does not list Brammer as receiving hospital treatment, but a news release from the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office says Brammer was indeed hospitalized in Burlington for minor injuries.
All three involved were wearing their seat belts when the crash happened. The junction was closed for over 12 hours after the crash.
