Recently scammers have tried to collect money by having citizens purchase gift cards and make payments with them. This is normally done under the guise of a debt collection or business opportunity. No legitimate business wants payment in the form of gift cards or requires your assistance in purchasing them.
Emporia Police wish to remind residents to never give out any personal information over the phone or online. If you believe you have received calls or emails from scammers contact the authorities immediately.
