Fire destroyed some grass on the east side of The Orchard on Monday.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says about half an acre of grass was on fire when crews responded to a brush fire call shortly after 1 pm. The fire was moving towards a shed, but firefighters got it controlled before the blaze could reach the building.
Steinlage says there was no damage to structures or to trees on the property. A trash burn apparently got away with occasionally breezy conditions on site. There were no injuries.
Reading Fire responded but was canceled on the way to the fire.
Meanwhile, Emporia firefighters are investigating after fire broke out west of the Emporia Municipal Airport on Monday.
Fire developed in the 1200 block of Road H, roughly two miles west of the airport, before 3 pm. Steinlage says the fire burned about 50 acres of grass along with a large brush pile. No other damage was reported.
There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation. Olpe Fire responded as mutual aid.
