As planned work continues on several significant water main projects across town, work is set to begin this week on another set of water mains.
City Engineering crews and contractors will begin work on Rural and East Wilman from 15th to 18th. City Engineer Jim Ubert says this should be a month-long process, depending on weather and nearby water line failures.
There will be no on-street parking allowed during the work on Rural and East Wilman, although residents will have access to their driveways. Work will affect both brick and asphalt pavement.
The work near the Emporia Country Club comes as the city of Emporia continues work on West 12th between Prairie and Grand to replace a 20-inch line. That work has also included unplanned work on Prairie near 15th and also on 12th from Grand to Lincoln after separate water main breaks over the last month.
In addition, work continues on the east side of Tyson Fresh Meats as a new water line is installed from Sixth Avenue to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. The employee southbound entrance remains closed this week while that work continues.
Also, South Avenue has been closed at Carter Street as a water main is replaced. The work there could take another 7-10 days to complete and is part of a multifaceted project to improve water line stability for Industrial Park III and nearby neighborhoods.
