The Emporia Senior American Legion baseball team opened State tournament play with a 10-3 win over the Topeka Senators Wednesday night.
Post 5 scored 3 runs in the first inning. John Miller doubled driving in 2 of those runs.
Topeka tied the game with a run in the 3rd and 2 runs in the 4th inning. Emporia took the lead for good with 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Cole Moore drove in 2 runs in the inning.
They added a run in the 5th and 2 runs in the 6th. Sawyer Slayden was the winning pitcher going final 4 inning without giving up a run.
Emporia will play Nickerson in their second pool play game Thrusday evening at 6pm.
