Part of the 12th and Prairie intersection is opening back to traffic Friday afternoon.
The City Engineering Department says the intersection itself, along with 12th Avenue west of the junction and Prairie Street south, will re-open Friday. Prairie north of the intersection and 12th east of the junction will remain closed.
Crews have had the intersection closed for about three weeks now as work continues on replacing a 20-inch water main on 12th between Prairie and Grand. Originally, the project was supposed to take around two weeks to complete, but nearby water main breaks, especially one on Prairie near 15th, caused delays.
The latest estimates had the intersection fully reopening by early August. The full construction zone should reopen to normal traffic by September.
