Plans for a wind energy development near Reading took the next step forward, at least at the county level.
Lyon County commissioners approved a professional services contract with Kirkham Michael as the RES Americas development, long discussed, edges closer to reality. Lyon County Zoning and Planning Administrator Sam Seeley says this will help protect the county’s investment in the roads that could be affected.
RES Americas continues its work to finalize a power provider agreement before actually beginning construction on the better than 20,000-acre project. RES initially approached the county better than a decade ago. RES will reimburse all the contract costs, so there is no net outlay for the county.
Separately, commissioners approved the 2019 budget for publication purposes. The budget features a slight reduction in the mill levy from 60.821 to 60.48.
In addition, commissioners approved Modern Air’s bid of $74,800 to replace a chiller in the Lyon County Jail. It wasn’t the low bid, but it was within the county’s 3-percent guidelines for local bids. Commissioners also approved a supplemental agreement with BG Consultants for $11,200 to replace a generator in the jail.
