A full moon greeted cyclists and runners as they navigated through the annual Lunar Kanza Saturday.
About 400 people turned out for the fifth annual event which brought folks in from across the country. Executive Director Jim Cummins says it’s a great event to bring the cycling community together with Emporia’s business community.
The event brought in cyclists like Connie Cortez-Barb of Emporia, who has participated every year. She says the ride was another challenging endeavor.
A much smaller, less competitive ride than its counterpart, the Dirty Kanza, the Lunar Kanza had some new features including a scavenger hunt on course with prizes awarded to those who found the items on the course. Cortez-Barb of Emporia says she didn’t have any luck on that front.
Cummins says this year’s turnout was the largest in the event’s history.
The event concluded with the annual block party behind Gravel City Adventure Supply.
