Almost a month after Jose Angel Montes was fatally struck by a semi on Interstate 35, Emporia Police are still piecing together what led up to his death.
A preliminary autopsy was conducted shortly after Montes’ death early July 1, but investigators are waiting for toxicology results and the final autopsy to be filed before they comment further. Detectives have also been holding interviews with people who saw, talked with or dealt with Montes in the days or hours before he died.
Montes was on Interstate 35 near the Burlingame Road exit when a semi driven by 47-year-old Dewaine Jackson of Amarillo, Texas, struck and killed him, according to officers. Jackson told authorities he tried unsuccessfully to avoid Montes before the accident.
A reward of up to $1,000 is still in effect through Lyon Crime Stoppers as authorities try to solve this case. If you have information and want to submit an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at 342-2273, go online to www.p3tips.com or download and use the P3Tips mobile app.
