With just three weeks to go until the start of a new school year, the Salvation Army of Lyon County is seeking help on a variety of fronts.
On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia Monday, Capt. Deb Thompson said summertime typically takes a toll on the food pantry, which is in need of replenishing.
The Salvation Army food pantry served 401 individuals in June and July alone. Back to school assistance applications are also being extended through Friday.
Families in need may contact the office at 620-342-3093 to make an appointment. Applicants are required to provide a picture ID, proof of all persons living in the home, proof of all income or a picture ID and food benefits approval statement from the Department for Children and Families.
The Salvation Army continues to distribute box fans to anyone needing one through the summer. Contact Becky or Suzanne at the office for more information.

While it may look full on some shelves, the Salvation Army food pantry served 401 individuals in June and July and many of these items will go fast.

This is the back storage room inside the food pantry. Typically when it’s full, all of the pallets are stacked high.

This photo shows the need for more canned fruits and vegetables.

As you can see in this photo, there is a great need for boxed meals.
