Agriculture producers may soon be able to get some financial assistance to help offset the impact of ongoing drought in the region.
The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Conservation has announced the Livestock Water Supply Financial Assistance Initiative. It provides financial assistance for livestock water supply wells, pipeline and tanks installed after June 1, 2018, and prior to the announcement of the Environmental Quality Incentives Program Drought Initiative by the Natural Resources Conservation Service on July 24. Landowners in 50 Kansas counties including Lyon and all surrounding counties are eligible.
Division of Conservation Executive Director Rob Reschke explains how much ag producers can be eligible to receive.
A Division of Conservation meeting will take place in the middle of August and at the state fair in September where applications will be reviewed and approved. Reschke explains how they determined just how grave the situation was for Kansas ag producers.
Applications must be made through local conservation districts. The deadline to apply is Aug. 31.
