Reports of scams continue to come in hot across the KVOE listening area.
KVOE’s Managing Your Money with ESB Financial Vice President Karen Sommers spent time dealing with scams Wednesday, including the common calls relating to the Internal Revenue Service, tech support or refunds.
Meanwhile, the Chase County Sheriff’s Office is alerting travelers to a simple scam that may be extremely effective. Scammers are waiting for people to check into hotel rooms before randomly calling rooms, identifying themselves as front office staff and saying there were unspecified issues with the credit card. The scammers will then ask to repeat the full credit card number and “verify” the three-digit code on the back of the card.
If this happens to you, tell the caller that you will be down to clear up any problems — and then go to the front desk. If there were no issues, let staff know you were contacted by a scammer.
Whenever you get a suspicious call, make sure not to give out any personal or sensitive information. Instead, let local law enforcement know as soon as possible.
