Downtown Emporia is ready to be artsy for August’s First Friday.
Emporia First Fridays have been expanding over the last two years, with 12 locations this month and artists excited to present. Organizer Kalia Mock was on KVOE’s Newsmaker Thursday to preview this month’s presenting venue and featured artist.
Fellow organizer Joel Smith says new artists are asking to present every week, and he can see why it is important.
Featured venues included: Ellen Plumb’s City Bookstore, Emporia Arts Council, Gravel City Roasters, Kansas Free For Arts, Maud’s Tattoo Company, Mulready’s Pub, Prairie Dust Gallery, Plumb Place, Soul Ride, Twin Rivers Wine and Gourmet Shoppe, and Vault Meats & Cheeses.
First Friday runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., demonstrations, contests, and entertainment throughout downtown. For more information email emporiafirstfriday@gmail.com or check out its facebook page.
