An Emporia woman originally accused of being involved in a marijuana grow operation has now received probation for a related crime.
Octavia Ellis, 35, was first accused of intent to manufacture or cultivate, use and possession of drug paraphernalia and aggravated child endangerment along with her husband, 36-year-old William Ellis, after the two were arrested at 1411 Lawrence on May 1. On Friday, Octavia Ellis received one year of probation with an underlying 6-month prison term, meaning any violations will send her to prison for half a year.
William Ellis, meanwhile, will be sentenced Aug. 29 after pleading no contest to cultivating controlled substances and aggravated child endangerment.
Separately, one of four defendants accused of a rural burglary in Lyon County early this year also received probation in his case.
Nathyn Kennedy was accused of burglary, criminal trespass and theft after he was arrested in January. He received 24 months of Community Corrections supervision. Probation violations would send Kennedy to prison for 12 months.
