The license of Emporia chiropractor Eric Hawkins remains suspended following an emergency hearing held Wednesday regarding the matter by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts.
On July 27, allegations of inappropriate behavior surfaced against Hawkins after a female patient filed a formal complaint with the Board of Healing Arts. According to the journal entry, a lack of credibility in Hawkins’ testimony.
The complaint stated that on July 26, Hawkins without consent, allegedly reached under the female patient’s pants and initiated unwanted skin to skin touching and massaging of her inner thigh and buttocks and allegedly removed her undergarments. The complaint also details allegations that Hawkins embraced the patient without invitation more than once during the visit.
The presiding officer found irregularities in the testimony by Hawkins, noting it raised questions about his credibility. The journal entry finds that records of his treatment of the patient were not provided when she requested them but two weeks later when requested by Emporia Police, the record was produced, raising questions regarding the accuracy of the Hawkins testimony and statements about his treatment of the patient. The presiding officer also found Hawkins less than forthcoming regarding his purported lack of awareness of a basis for a referral after the issue was raised at the hearing by his attorney.
Hawkins has been a practicing chiropractor with Emporia Chiropractic, LLC at 2708 West 12th Ave. His license remains suspended pending the resolution of the petition or other action by the board.
