Lyon County deputies are investigating after a man was reported walking along a state highway with a gun — and was later found with more than one gun in his possession.
Deputies received a report of a man walking with a gun in the 1100 block of north Kansas Highway 99 around 7:40 pm. As they responded, a secondary report came down the man, later identified as 38-year-old Eric Hooper of Emporia, had been firing the gun.
Lyon County Sgt. Doug Stump says Hooper was unarmed and “somewhat cooperative” when deputies arrived. The initial investigation showed Hooper wasn’t targeting anybody. However…
Hooper was arrested and confined in the Lyon County Jail. Formal charges are pending.
Stump tells KVOE News there was some social media chatter about this possibly being an active shooter situation, and he says that was not the case.
