The primary election is drawing near across Kansas.
Advance voting ended at noon Monday, so now all attention turns to the formal primary from 7 am-7 pm Tuesday. Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat, a guest on Monday’s 7:05 am newscast, says there will be a cadre of volunteers ready to help at all county polling locations Tuesday.
This is the first local election in almost 20 years that will feature new voting equipment, and Vopat says the reaction from voters has been largely positive.
Over 875 people have voted in Lyon County. Vopat is expecting around 4 to 5 percent advance voter turnout, and she is hoping to see close to 50 percent turnout for the actual election that culminates Tuesday. Here locally, the main question is whether Emporia should join nearby communities like Americus, Lebo, Lyndon, Olpe and Osage City with Sunday liquor sales. Statewide, attention is on the governor’s race, with insurance commissioner, secretary of state and House races also on the ballot.
KVOE News will have complete election coverage, including results and reactions, beginning shortly after the polls close Tuesday.
