Emporia School Board members are getting closer to having the 2018-19 budget finalized.
In fact, the budget will be a discussion point Wednesday evening when the board meets to review the upcoming budget with a goal of publishing this week and possible approval later this month.
The changes in the new budget include a minimum local option budget set at 15 percent for all districts and an increase in base state aid per pupil from $4,006 last year to $4,165. The budget also includes the transfer of more than $372,000 from the General Fund to bilingual and $1.4 million to K-12 at risk, as required for high poverty districts. The estimated district mill levy is set at 53.863 mills while the Recreation Commission levy has no increase.
An update to the district’s needs assessment will also be discussed along with the discussion of filling the vacant school board seat left by Mike Helbert, who resigned last month.
Wednesday’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the board’s meeting room at the Mary Herbert Education Center.
