Parents are advised to come out this weekend for a free safety seat checkpoint at Emporia’s Fire Station 2.
Safe Kids Emporia puts on the free checkpoint multiple times per year to increase child safety. Spokesperson Bev Long says a number of variables come into play and often times parents are unaware their child’s car seats aren’t installed properly.
Long says awareness has increased since beginning these check lanes but says they do still find errors. She says it’s important that parents don’t get discouraged.
Information will also be available on other safety tips and the coalition will have a number of car seats on hand for those who may qualify for a replacement seat.
The check lane runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station 2, located at 15th and Industrial Road. Parents should bring their child with them to the check lane.
