Roughly two months after a major water line project closed down parts of West 12th Avenue, the street has fully reopened to normal traffic flow.
Barricades at Prairie and Garfield streets were removed shortly before noon Tuesday.
Traffic had been blocked since mid-June with the City Engineering Department spearheading the replacement of a 20-inch water main between Prairie and Grand to improve the reliability of water service nearby. The existing line failed at several points during the project, including at Sunnyslope, Grand and Garfield. Also, nearby water line break on 12th at Lincoln and on Prairie near 15th diverted construction crews and lengthened the timeline of the overall project.
With this work now completed, City Engineering will add emphasis to work ongoing on East Wilman Court between 15th and 18th. A 6-inch line is being replaced there. Additional work is planned on Rural, also between 15th and 18th in the coming weeks.
