Former Emporia Senior Center Director Lannie Lyman will have legal representation at her upcoming preliminary hearing.
During an attorney review hearing Thursday afternoon, Lyman, who’s accused of theft totaling more than $100,000 from the senior center, informed Judge Doug Jones she had been unsuccessful in hiring an attorney. Lyman says she attempted to hire Clark Allemang of Helbert & Allemang Law Services as her defense lawyer. Allemang declined the case due to a conflict of interest.
Lyman, who is currently unemployed said she was unable to hire an attorney that will work with her financially. Jones found that Lyman qualified for court-appointed counsel and appointed attorney Brian Williams to represent her.
Lyman will appear for a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Aug. 23.
