A member of the Emporia State football team was wounded by a gunshot last night. According to the Emporia Police department, Marquise Johnson was a passenger in a car when a gun went off.
The wound was considered serious but not life threatening. He was transported to Sormont Vail in Topeka. An investigation is being conducted by the Emporia Police Department. There have been no arrest or charges filed at this time. Johnson is listed as a senior defensive back from Independence, Kansas. Emporia State Football Coach Garin Higgins in a released statement said,
“We are aware of the situation and first and foremost our main concern is the health and well-being of Marquise.
My understanding is an accident occurred and there was no intention behind it.
We’ll continue to evaluate the situation as more information comes available.”
