Local students and residents alike flooded Commercial Street Monday evening to celebrate the start of a new school year.
The annual Welcome Back Students Block Party was held in the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Commercial Street allowing new and returning Flint Hills Technical College and Emporia State Universtiy students to see what the town of Emporia has to offer. From food vendors to internet providers and an assortment of door prizes, there was plenty for local students to see and sample.
Several ESU and FHTC administrators were also on hand including ESU Director of Student Services and Marketing for the School of Business Beth Ginter. She says the Block Party allows local administrators a more relaxed environment to interact with their students.
Recent ESU transfer student Darian Rogers says she is adjusting well to Emporia as the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in the community translates into the classroom.
ESU President Allison Garrett was also on hand and spoke to KVOE about the synergy the Block Party helps create between students and local businesses.
Back to school activities continue Tuesday with a part-time job fair at ESU. You can find a link with more information by clicking here.
